In plain words
- We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA on the website, the join and status pages, the staff pages and the staff app.
- Every screen is checked automatically for accessibility problems, including color contrast, before it ships.
- Some gaps remain, listed below.
- If something gets in your way, write to our support email (coming soon) and we will help you and fix it.
Our goal
Joining a line and running one with Walk-In Waitlist should work for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, zoom or larger text, and people in a hurry on a small phone. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA for the website, the join and status pages, the staff pages and the staff app for iOS and Android.
What we do
- Plain structure: real headings, buttons, links, form labels and landmarks, so assistive technology can find its way.
- Keyboard and focus: every action works with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a link to skip to the main content on staff pages.
- Color and contrast: text and controls are designed to meet AA contrast in light and dark mode, and a visit's status is always written out, not shown by color alone.
- Text size: pages are built to reflow when you zoom in on the web, and the app follows the text size set on the device.
- Language: every page and screen is in English and Spanish, and declares its language.
- Time: the status page updates by itself and keeps your place; nothing expires while you read it, and texts tell you when it is your turn.
- Automated tests: each release runs axe accessibility checks (WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules plus best practices, color contrast included) on every customer, staff and admin screen in Chromium and WebKit, on phone and desktop sizes. A release with a violation does not ship.
- Manual checks: we try new screens with a screen reader and the keyboard before release.
Known gaps
- The bot check on the join page (Cloudflare Turnstile) runs in a frame we do not control. It is usually invisible; if it asks you to do something you cannot do, ask the shop to add you at the counter.
- The printable QR poster is an image for printing. The same link is shown as text on the staff pages and can be shared by text or email.
- Some automated checks follow WCAG 2.1 rules; the newer WCAG 2.2 criteria (such as target size and focus not obscured) are checked by hand.
- No independent accessibility audit has been done yet. We plan one before a wider launch.
